British military helicopter flying in Germany has come to an end as the drawdown of British troops from BFG Gütersloh gathers pace.

1 Regiment Army Air Corps held a special parade today at Princess Royal Barracks before their Lynx aircraft left Gütersloh for the very last time.

In just two decades 1AAC have racked up 17 operational commitments including Afghanistan, the Balkans and Iraq. Only last week, 661 Squadron returned home from Op Herrick 18.

1 Regiment Army Air Corps commissioned this distinctive bronze sculpture of a lynx wildcat leaping from a piece of German stone. A serving AAC officer sculpted the bronze which was given a temporary home on the green in front of the Officers’ Mess at Gutersloh but will move to Yeovilton with 1 Regt AAC as they convert from Lynx to Wildcat as part of the Aviation Reconnaissance Force

More 1 Regiment News:

1 Regiment Army Air Corps is located at Gutersloh, Germany, with its fleet of Lynx Mk9A helicopters. Under Army 2020 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_of_the_British_Army_(Army_2020)) the Regiment will merge with 9 Regiment Army Air Corps, located at Dishforth, North Yorkshire, by October 2015. These merged regiments will bring the Wildcat force under a single Headquarters based at Yeovilton, Somerset.

8 Flight News:

As of 1 September 2013 8 Flight Army Air Corps was remustered as 658 Squadron Army Air Corps. :suspect:
