European Parliament Committee Blocks Flight-time Rules
The European Parliament’s transport committee today blocked the European Commission’s proposals on flight and duty time limitations for commercial pilots flying within the European Union. The rules as currently proposed by the EU commission have been widely criticized for being out of step with recent scientific research on fatigue. They are due to a go to a full parliamentary vote on October 21, ahead of the official scrutiny period for the legislation ending on October 25. At that point EU member state government transport ministers also will give their verdict on the proposals.
