Pleasse someone do an stc for LTS 101 700D2 engine to go in to EC120. Just had a quote for Mod 1 on the Arrius 2f 300k :{ While there at it how about AS350 Gearbox and head and then we would have a Super Helibus:ugh:
Then again if the genius at Eurocopter thought up that name change what hope is there :D

You can't go upgrading the 120 like that you may get something that flys and performs like a gazelle !!!!

Isn't this what the Chinese have done to produce their latest light Heli?

I started a thread awhile ago on what people thought should go on EC120C. I think the LTS101-700D-2 is a little over kill, you could use the LTS101-600A-3A. As you say, needs the rotor head and gearbox beefed up a bit. Also a full FADEC wouldn't hurt either, stop those nasty T4 runaways. I wonder if they'll look making it better now that Bell is thinking of making that new 5 seat machine.

Just buy a AS350 super D2 and get rid of the 120.

I hear the 600A - 3A is being phased out

I own a AS350 and love them for commercial work but the EC120 ( just bought one) just seems nicer from a private pilot point of view and a bit less fuel burn. I don't have a great issue with the Arriel 1B because there are lots of options NONE with the Arrius

No the A-2 and A-3 are being phased our but we can still get the A-3A and the 700D-2. Prices currently range from a zero time since over haul with all new life/cycle limited parts for $344,000.00, to $450,000.00 for a brand new 700D-2.
Yes the 600A-3A would be perfect for the EC120. I wonder if there are enough customers that would change to justify the $500K to $750K cost to certify. The kit cost probably would be similar to the Soloy gold kit for the BA $455,000.00. No FADEC though I'm afraid.

Well maybe have started the idea now someone will run with it; considering a lot of ec120's are heading towards that 15yr period. There would be a need for Soloy I suppose to get it approved. At the 350,000 end of the price range it would be a goer I think at the 455k - not. I don't see why it costs so much to certify when the engine itself is already out there.

Heli-Lynx studied an LTS101-600 conversion for the EC120 a few years back, even going so far as to produce a brochure (which must still be out on the internets somewhere), but the program was never launched.

as350nut, check out the FAA FARs and EASA regulations and you will see why the certification efforts cost so much. If such a mod was conducted by an OEM it would be even higher.
The certification investment could easily be absorbed into a total kit price of around $450,000.00 (assume a production run of 100 kits) and remember we are trying to address your opening post of having heart ache over a MOD 1 quote of $300,000! The A-3A kit will have a one time cost $150K more and you will get an "On Condition" fully warrantied engine that doesn't have to go to the factory for O/H or inspection, cost less than $100 an hour to run, will have better limit margins for torque, temp and rpm.
How much will it cost if you had every other item in the 2f overhauled?

I do love the EC120, it is a great machine with a lot of potential. Unfortunately it suffers from an extremely competitive market segment. The R66 probably killed the last chance of seeing a EC120 upgrade.
I can't find anything wrong with the Arrius engine. Low maintenance, low consumption and pretty reliable. Bear in mind that the engine power is limited by the gearbox! I did operate a EC120 a few years ago mainly for training a mountain flying and it was a pretty damn good money maker.
Another thing to consider is the internal EC marketing non-sense: Why do you want to spend the money on a EC120 when you can get a AS350B2! I believe EC should have withdrawn the B2 from the line long time ago.
One thing for sure: you could do a lot better with a EC120. The design is exactly identical to the SA342, only the power is much lower. There's a slight difference in power output between a Arrius 2F and a Astazou 14!
