chivenors runway fully useable again, with c-130 hercules landing today, and USAFE mc-130s due today and tomorrow from mildenhall, part of an exercise, if a herc can still use it it must be ok, hope many more will.:D;)

Says who? Sounds like it has been activated as a temporary landing zone for an exercise, nothing more.

You mean the herc that operates from fields, African scrub, deserts, beaches, etc. Yep, that must mean the runway is OK then :D

C130 - can land anywhere (within reason!) and a great piece of gear like the Chinook.

Agreed with above - does not mean R/W is servicable again whatsoever.

G:ok:

I used to have to run across that runway, in between 4-ships of Hunters taking off or landing, to get to work at the GCA site.

624 VGS still use the runway today.

NoD,

pretty much since the current occupants moved in 1994. I seem to recall that they even dug a trench across it just to make sure it was properly broken.

Whilst I was in the church yard at Heanton Punchardon, I saw a light aircraft take off, or was it a motorised glider? Is the runway open to GA?

NoD,

pretty much since the current occupants moved in 1994. I seem to recall that they even dug a trench across it just to make sure it was properly broken. Ummm... I thought the Touch and Goes I've done there in a Hunter in the last 2-3 years were a bit bumpy

AFAIK the runway has stayed available...
