For some reason it doesn't work for me... Nor for me, at least not embedded in a post.

But it's worth seeking it out on YouTube, it really is rather impressive:

Boring! I've seen various members of the 'Airbus' family do similar departures for their displays at Farnborough eg A300/A310/A330/A340/A380.

Whenever I've tried filming at an airshow it's always nearly impossible to do so without having inane audio that ruins the sound and this video reminds me yet again why so many of them have music as a background. Nice AoA, hopefully the tanks were pretty empty to stop it sloshing about too much :)

Folks, click on the YouTube icon lower right - it'll work on their page.

It's worth the watch!

Richard.

To be honest Janet, it's nothing that unusual at an air display. More unusual was experiencing it on an empty positioning flight from MAN to BHX many moons ago on an Orion Airways B737. OK, it wasn't a wide body but lots of fun nevertheless.

To be honest Janet, it's nothing that unusual at an air display.Actually, the USAF disagreed.

Reportedly, both of those KC-10 pilots were invited for tea, but no biscuits, with their commander following their unscripted escapade.

No, I know we're all pretending to be cool, that's a very unusual maneuvour for a KC10, the AOA is pretty extreme.

Thanks for posting :)!

DaveReidUK, you mean "coffee, but no cookies" of course ;)

SOE, not trying "to be cool" at all. I wasn't suggesting that the video wasn't interesting, but just pointed out that it wasn't that unusual in general terms. The thread title referred to wide body and not specifically to the KC-10. Definitely worth the watch, but one did see those kind of AOAs performed by widebody airliners at Farnborough and Paris in the distant past.

The AoA is won't be much different from a normal departure, probably even less.

He obviously doesn't understand AOA versus pitch attiude on a very light aeroplane at max thrust

Rumour has it that the pilot used to fly Lightnings ;-)

Bet the Tank 1 & 3 forward boost pump lights were on. I couldn't give a monkies about the Airbus family and its alpha-floor. Still impressive in a KC10:ok:
