Afternoon folks,

Any pilots jumping the ditch to fly their ATR fleet? Can any ex Mt Cook Pilots who now work in Australia shed some insight and tips into the company and moving to NZ.

Much help would be appreciated

It's the recruit to group system run by HR boffins. They are psychology trained academics with zero aviation nouse and will listen to you tell them that you have a trillion hours operating ATRs or that you already flew for airnz in the 90s on the bandit before heading offshore and still have your old uniform blah blah

And they will still decide you are ideal for the beech 1900 fleet or worse that you don't have enough "brand personality" or sixth form equivalent or some other drivel..!

Oh by the way Chooks Ts and Cs are pretty much the best for turbo drivers in NZ

Umm, Matty has given you a bunch of information. Firstly that the T's and C's are the best going for turbo prop employees around the country.

Secondly and more importantly that you will have to deal with the HR crowd if you want a job and they will likely tell you that they know best and that you may be sent in the direction of something you do not wish to fly eg. a Beech 1900.

Do you have first hand knowledge that what Matty says isn't true? It is a little cryptic but I got the drift of what he said.

If you want to apply for Mt Cook you will have to attend the Air NZ Recruit to Group process. You have the opportunity to state your preferences if successful, you also have the choice to decline if they offer you something different to
your preference.

Mt Cook is primarily recruiting for its Auckland
Base, so think carefully if you're after a Christchurch gig. Having said that, 3 CHC FO positions were advertised and expected to be taken by some of the recent recruits, but they had pretty much committed to Auckland through moving expenses, partners job and rental agreements. So there are the odd direct entry CHC positions.

Recent command upgrades for the AKL base have been for 6-7yr FO's but the latest successful command recipient had 15mths seniority and will have 2yrs in completion of training. Not sure how long this will continue for, depends on new aircraft options being taken up.

New hire FO's start somewhere on late $50k's without ATPL subjects and mid-late $60k's with. Allowances in order of $12-14k tax free on top of.

Contract allows for 5 days off/fortnight, no standby's. new computerised roster system is changing the lifestyle aspect but its still a pretty good job.

As I said at the start, apply if you're keen, decline if you're not offered what you want.
