HRH the Duchess of York (big mistake - Cambridge as we all know. I am an idiot) - has given birth to a baby boy.

The baby was delivered at 16:24 BST, weighing 8lb 6oz, it was announced in a press release.

15 to 1. Worth a flutter.

Fantastic news!!! Congratulations to the proud parents and welcome to our future King!!!!!

Don't get at Courtney - everyone knows that York has primacy in all things so it was a natural slip to make!

everyone knows that York has primacy in all things

Rumour has it that, when GeorgeVI died, the Yorkshire Post headline was "Ex-Duke of York Dies". All to do with priorities.

As an aside, when was the last time we had an heir to the heir to the heir to the throne; or is this a first?

Just a general question. If Kate, Wills and Sproglet head off to Bucklebury straight from St Mary's is Aunty Betty likely to visit there? And has she visited before?

Is there any traditional custom relating to new born royalty being presented to the Queen at Buck House, and is there a requirement for the Speaker of the House of Parliament to be officially informed? Again a tradition thing.

It was once customary for the Home Secretary, as a senior member of the Cabinet, to attend royal births to ensure the new arrival was a genuine descendant of the monarch and had not an imposter smuggled in.

William & Kate have a nice apt in Kensington Palace currently under decoration (Apartment 1A, last occupied by the quintessentially regal Princess Margaret), they will be staying in Nottingham Cottage (on the grounds of KP) until it is ready. And yes, HRH is scheduled to visit them there within a couple of days.

It was once customary for the Home Secretary, as a senior member of the Cabinet, to attend royal births to ensure the new arrival was a genuine descendant of the monarch and had not an imposter smuggled in.

Ended emphatically by HRH Elizabeth and Prince Phillip at the birth of Charles. It seems Phillip hinted that requiring a witness other than himself and the medical staff would impugn his honor (or some such thing), and the then-Princess Elizabeth appealed to "Daddy" to order a change in policy.

Or so the story goes.

He later became Managing Director of the company, supervising the development of the Vanguard, VC10 and (post-merger) BAC TSR-2 strike bomber. He was knighted in 1957. when HRH Prince George of Cambridge becomes King George VII, ... or just possibly King George VIII ....

..... one has heard rumours that his grandfather (Charles) is not wildly impressed with Charleses 1 & 2, so was thinking of taking George (one of his names) as his title.

After all, Geo VI (aka Colin Firth!) was Albert Frederick Arthur George, and always known in the family as "Bertie". For that matter, his big brother Edward VIII/Duke of Windsor was Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David (all the patron saints - geddit?) and known as "David"

good to see he is becoming accustomed to being strapped into a Bang Seat so early I'm sure HRH Flt Lt Wales has his baby's safety as a priority but whoever showed the baby's parents how to strap him in should be subject to disciplinary action. He is most UNSAFE like that. Heaven forbid there was an accident as he could very easily be thrown out or killed by the loose straps strangling or hanging him. He should have been unwrapped from his shawl, placed in the seat and the straps tightened so that only a couple of fingers could be inserted between the straps and the baby. Then, and only then, could the shawl have been tucked around him. If anyone is in a position to pass on this information I should be very pleased if you would do so. I have many years of sending home newborn babies from hospital and was responsible for the introduction in our area of car seats for the transfer of babies in ambulances so I do know how to strap in a baby.
The straps should be checked for correct fitting each time the seat is used as the baby will not always be wearing the same clothes and a difference in thickness can affect the strap settings.

CoffmanStarter
24th Jul 2013, 20:05
DXW ... Fair point ... I certainly didn't get the car seat right first time some twenty years ago today with Master Coff.

DX Wombat
24th Jul 2013, 20:39
CS, it really worries me that parents are still not taught/shown how to strap in the baby safely. Baby seats have changed a great deal in the past few years and most now have a single, long strap below the central buckle and this strap is pulled to tension the others correctly. The little lad could also do with some form of head support to stop it wobbling around or dropping forward onto his chest causing a kink in his airway. Baby seats of twenty years ago usually had to have each strap adjusted individually - a right pain. :* I better stop now before I bore you all. How can you tell I have a real thing about car safety for children?
Happy 20th birthday to CS Son. :)

I don't know how many times I have sent messages to the back bench at the Mail about this.
Once is a mistake, twice is incompetence, many is ignorance.
Bear in mind, also, even very senior people at the Mail can be severely ignorant - used in it's proper sense.
New Year's honours list 1992 and the deputy editor of the Mail - duty editor - called the then-defence and aerospace specialist correspondent while he was on Christmas leave.
"There's been a major disaster involving the military and the MoD refuses to admit it. As usual, they're lying. Find out, now, what the hell has happened and file the story." quoth said deputy-editor.
"What are you on about?" says the Def & Aero correspondent.
"" Well the honours list is out and there's all these senior officers, such as Brigadier ****, late Royal Engineers, and Colonel **** late Black Watch," etc, "
Def & Aero Corr (Army ret'd), at home with his parents (father Army ret'd), sister (Army serving) and brother-in-law (Army serving), trying not to gently wet themselves at this, just says, "I'll get back to yoü," but there's nothing here to worry about."
You really have to wonder, though, don't you. To have reached deputy-editor of a major Fleet Street newspaper, he MUST have seen the honours list many times before!!

500N
24th Jul 2013, 22:13
I think what gets them confused is William is in the RAF and flies Helicopters
and Harry flies Helicopters so must be in the RAF. If that makes sense !!!

And with the internet, 30 seconds to check.

Gerontocrat
24th Jul 2013, 22:39
And just a couple of seconds more to check that Wattisham is no longer RAF Wattisham. In the last message I sent I did point out that there are a couple of clues to help them get it right: 1) Prince Harry's uniform; 2) his rank - Capt. Wales, not Flt Lt Wales; and the fact that Prince Harry flies an Apache attack helicopter - a type not flown by the RAF. I don't know if there are any exchange drivers.
With all that and the availability of all sorts of interweb-thingy means of checking, the current subs must be bears of very little brain indeed to keep getting the whole thing wrong.
Oh, and there is also the tiny matter of a one-hour long documentary on Capt Wales last tour in Afghanistan - something which the Mail, inter alia, took great pains to report.

500N
24th Jul 2013, 22:46
I hadn't thought of those other cross references.

A lot of the media people are not journos anymore,
just reporters who re hash what they are given or
told to say. And as you say, those at the top don't
know or can't be bothered checking - or even knowing
the subject, then it's no wonder.

I couldn't agree more. Why do you waste your time persisting in sending them messages when they ignore them? Once was indeed a mistake but I'll not call you incompetent for sending a second or the subsequent ones.. merely 'misguided'

To think that the Daily Wail is serious about responsible, let alone accurate, journalism is a grave mistake. May I suggest that you take a proper newspaper instead?

Well according to a letter in The Times, those who envisage a long procession of male monarchs stretching into the 22nd century following the recent birth of Will's and Kate's Prince George will need to think again: ‘It is true that Princes William and now George are in line to the throne, but in the UK we have direct succession. So, if by some calamity the Queen were to be predeceased by her son, Charles, before he ascends to the throne,’ (perhaps by talking to one of his plants at ‘Highgrove’ that turns out to be a Triffid, that despatches him with it’s venomous sting.) ‘with the Queen still on the throne and Charles gone her direct descendant and heir would be Prince Andrew, with his eldest daughter becoming heir apparent.’

So if by chance ‘Air Miles’ Andrew became King, he would in due course be succeeded by his eldest daughter Bea as Queen Beatrice — and to add to the excitement his ex-wife Fergie would become ‘Queen Mother’ — a thrilling prospect!

Just thought you should know!

No - if Charles died, William becomes next in line. The direct lineage through Charles still takes precedence, even if he is dead. If Charles and William died, the baby would be next in line. Then Harry, and then Andrew.
