I know this is a little vague so be gentle with me. Whilst walking my dog along the cliff tops on the Sussex coast not far from Shoreham today I heard the unmistakable sound of 'vintage aircraft'.

I stood and waited and two aircraft, flying very low and close formation passed me by.

I unfortunately didn't have my camera phone with me so here is my best attempt at description.

The larger of the two was very distinctive in a polished aluminium finish with twin tail fins it looked not unlike a sea plane but I'm not sure if it was. I think it was twin engined but not 100% from memory.

The second was a smaller 'fighter' type aircraft which had a wing shape much like the Stuka. It was black or a very dark blue.

I know that's not a lot to go on but I was intrigued by them.

I bet someone will work it out for me.

Sounds like a Lightning and a Corsair.

These were the two Red Bull display aircraft returning to their base from the Air Tattoo 2013 at Fairford. The brushed silver aircraft with the lovely sounding engines was the Red Bull B-25J Mitchell (http://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/aircraft/aircraft-in-the-spotlight/Red-Bull-B-25J-Mitchell) and the dark blue fighter was the Red Bull F4 Corsair (http://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/aircraft/aircraft-in-the-spotlight/Red-Bull-F4-Corsair). Great sounding and looking vintage aircraft, especially the B-25 :ok:

Bingo! How quick was that from my very limited description.

Yes that was definitely them they were heading east along the coast so where are they based?

They do also have a P-38 Lightning, sadly temporarily unserviceable...
