Iceland in December

Hi all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

Firstly, while I work within aviation, I don't have a single hour of flying under my belt and have only flown in a light aircraft once :ok:

I'm visiting Iceland with my girlfriend again this December and would like to take a flight during our visit. In the past I've flown to Akureyri and Isafjordur on day trips and loved it :) Been pricing up other places and 'scenic flights' with Eagle Air but the prices are horrendous :eek:

We'd love the opportunity to go up in a light aircraft for an hour or two during our stay but I'm struggling to find anyone offering such a service.

If anyone is able to offer such a flight, or suggest anyone who is, a PM would be greatly appreciated :ok: Obviously we aren't expecting such a flight for free :cool:

Have you tried the Domestic Airport at Rejavik?

You could try a trial lesson with one of the Reykjavik flight schools.

I've had a look on the web but can't seem to find much information about flying clubs in Iceland, and if I do, it's in Iceland (of which my skills lack enormously).

Very little daylight, even in the south of Iceland, in December. Brilliant country, great people. Enjoy your visit.

I'm in Iceland at the moment and noticed a couple of brochures for companies operating sightseeing flights whilst I was in the Reykjavik tourist office this afternoon. Whether they operate in the winter I don't know, but if I am in there again I'll pick some up and send them on to you, either scanned or in the mail. I'm only a few minutes walk from the domestic airport, where I had the pleasure of seeing this rare bird take to the skies :

I did a short trip from Bakki to Vestmannaeyjar about 5 years ago. Not quite the 1-3 hours you were looking for though, more like 10 minutes! However it's still worth a trip as the Westman Islands are beautiful. There also might be something at the airfield that could do a pleasure trip further afield. Not much daytime during December in that part of the world however.

Saw the signs for Bakki airport last time I was in Iceland and did a bit of research but it seems the Baki - Westman route is no longer operated, other than the odd charter but I'm not sure who that's through?

Of course, if there are still similar length routes I'm happy to be proved wrong :ok:
