Hi There!

I hope to find some former RAFG members in this Forum, who can explain the meaning of the RAFG crest to me!

The crests of all squadrons are explained in the WWW but I canīt find any Information about this one!

regards from Germany

I know very little about heraldry but assume the winged griffin (symbolising vigilance, courage and strength) gripping an olive branch (symbolising peace) reflects the motto 'Keepers of the Peace'.

It was originally the badge of the RAF Second Tactical Air Force which became RAF Germany.
'Royal Air Force Germany' then replaced 2 TAF in the blue circlet.

To be more realistic, the Griffin should have been holding a large Wobbly/Grolsh/Bitburger/Hannen Alt (etc, etc)! Despite the MINEVAL, TACEVAL, threat of nuclear war etc, what a great place to serve :)

.... and it's a "Badge", not a "Crest". Just like (also frequently mis-named) Squadron Badges.

Joined up at Gutersloh in 1985 (brat), posted to Wildenrath tower 87-92 and then Bruggen WOC 97-00. Can't remember much about either tour especially if it involved the Deafen Inn.
