Out and about last night 6pm ish when (with witnesses) saw a helicopter of some description and wonder if anyone can identify it?
I thought I could identify just about any helicopter but this one has me beat.
We got pictures but the aircraft was just too high for the shots to be of any use. It was circling Danderyd constantly, piston engine and had a rotor mast similar to an R22. However the tail boom was much shorter and had a large horizontal stabiliser and fin. It was fitted with floats which were inflated but looked like a large "plank" joining the two! It appeared to be dark in colour, possibly black.
'Just curious to know? A homebuild perhaps or a modified R22?
My friends, who know nothing about helicopters, were the first to spot it and cried "What the f@@k is that?"

Can't you ask the nearest air traffic control if they know?

If you saw a helicopter then it's not a UFO because you've identified it as a helicopter. The clue is the bit after the 'Un' :ugh:

As for its dark/black appearance, if it was so far away to make out, any helicopter at that distance would be dark/black.

Please post the pics or even draw a picture, from your description it's quite distinctive, we might be able to identify this WTFFO.

'Looks a little like a JR in the pic but for sure it was not. As I said it was piston and the tail boom was very short. I could not see a tail rotor at all and considered maybe an autogyro but helis and autos have very distinctive sounds and this sounded very heli. 'Not so dark in the picture either. I estimate altitude about 1000' and moving very slowly.

Oh dear. Not sure if they have Specsavers in Sweden but perhaps you should look for the equivalent! ;)

And they come on floats in Sweden too...

Ha. Maybe? Just maybe? 'Looked bigger but you could be right? I had written off the autogyro but maybe you are right? Thanks a bunch!

Iv heard your standard gyro needs to reach 30mph on the ground to acheive lift. It would need alot of poke to reach that on water with large floats.

Looks like an MT-03 or ELA autogyro on floats.

There are one or two in existence.
