View Full Version : Charlotte Church
Sometimes I feel ashamed to be an adult.
Charlotte Church, the talented and charming young singer, has been nominated 'Rear of the Year'.
So a first-class classical artist (who has, to be fair, been on telly a lot) is thrust before the British public as having a nice arse. And that's it.
If that is how our society treats real talent, how do we resist the argument from the Third World that Western society is corrupt?
I think I agree that it is.
rob_frost 1st May 2002, 18:34 I just want a picture so I can judge her myself:D
OneWorld22 1st May 2002, 18:36 I agree, the award should have gone to Kylie!
AA SLF 1st May 2002, 19:01 If we are going to consider Opera singers, then surely Sarah Brightman should be in the running!! :)
If it is an open competition then would not Nigella Lawson be a good candidate as she is just as nice coming or going! :D
Send Clowns 1st May 2002, 19:09 What about Darcy Bussell? I know she spent a lot of last year pregnant, but a great talent and an absolute stunner with a fine behind! (If you philistines don't believe she's better looking than Kylie then check this picture (http://members.tripod.com/~Bussel/darcey2.jpg) out ;) )
Caslance 1st May 2002, 19:21 Did anyone actually see Ms Church on "Have I Got News For You" last week? What a lovely young woman she is becoming!
My word, if I was 25 years younger......................she'd still say "Go away or I'll call the Police!":D :D
Nice call on Darcy Bussell, SC. Talent and beauty combined, and a surfeit of both. Even though your link doesn't seem to be working!!
Bally Heck 1st May 2002, 19:23 Well if we are discussing classical arses, Pavarotti has got to win hands down on sheer magnitude alone.
Send Clowns 1st May 2002, 19:28 Link works for me, but if you still can't use it try http://members.tripod.com/~Bussel/darcey2.jpg .
nosefirsteverytime 1st May 2002, 20:00 Who made Charlotte Church ROTY anyways?
And do you think they only looked at her rear after she was over the age limit?
I'm not too far over it myself, but I'd still feel weird giving a 16-year-old ROTY over a few more mature wimmin!
And my vote for ROTY? well, nice bird on bus, have the pleasure of sitting behind her every day on way to sausage machine (ahem, college). Nicely shaped tits too! ;)
telly and magazines are great, but nothing, and I mean Nothing, beats the real thing! :D :D :D
Caslance 1st May 2002, 20:07 Yes, SC, that's much better!
I must admit, joking apart, that I share nosefirst's discomfort at a girl that age being singled out for an award of this kind.
Mind you, seeing that one of the gutter tabloids last year published an article breathlessly announcing to the world that this (then) 15 year-old girl was developing breasts (and printed the pictures to prove it) I suppose nothing should surprise us any more.
She is a very talented singer indeed, who seems to be developing into a very beautiful and naturally charming young lady.
I wish I could say the same about my eldest!
What_does_this_button_do? 1st May 2002, 20:15 You mean this I think (http://www.charlottechurch.com/charlottechurch/flash_front.html)
Blacksheep 2nd May 2002, 05:19 Pedophiles should be castrated
She's a child for heavens sake!!!!
I agree with JPJ, our society is corrupt.

Through difficulties to the cinema
Slasher 2nd May 2002, 06:10 Havent actualy seen this Charlotte Church myself (my browsers incompatable with the site Buttons posted) but if her arse is good could someone email a pic of it please? :D
PS how is she in the all-important boob dept? Couldnt see them on her site neither. :(
Jet Dragon 2nd May 2002, 07:21 As a Jet Blaster with two young daughters - younger than Miss Church I will add, I think it's really scary that a child - because that is surely what she still is - can regarded in sexual terms in mainstream press.
I am not a prude by ANY measure, but hell I fear for the sanctity of childhood.

Tartan Gannet 2nd May 2002, 09:50 I remember on the young lady's 16th birthday recently the Internet was buzzing with the following message
CHARLOTTE CHURCH - LEGAL!
says it all doesnt it!
Standard Noise 2nd May 2002, 10:40 Isn't there enough totty over 18 out there, without people ogling the under 18's???:(
Mishandled 2nd May 2002, 10:41 http://www.ananova.com/entertainment/story/sm_579102.html?menu=entertainment.latestheadlines
THere is a picture of the rear in question currently on this link. I still reckon Kylie has the best rear end. Darcy isnt bad though. But not really sexy like Kylie.:)
Mind you there have been some right mingers won rear of the year over the years. Carol Vorderman! fatarse of the year more like. That bird from Hi-de-hi! (cant remember her name, bur come on!) So the award has no credibilty at all.
Jet Dragon 2nd May 2002, 21:50 Sorry TG can't agree on this one
Legal is one thing, moral is another.

As a classically trained singer I know a good voice when i hear it, and Charlotte Chuch has one of the worst Sop voices I have heard in a long time for a so called professional. She sells records on the cherubic novelty image, not becuase she has a voice or technique. Compare her wailing to that of Shelley Hoban or Carys-Anne Lane, Becky outram and others and you will see what I mean. Now she is getting older the whole cherubic 12 year old thing is lost, so what else is left for her PR agency but to start trying to sell records on her blossoming sexuality? It won't be long before we see her record covers showing more flesh and sass that is decent in the hopes of raising flagging record sales.
If anyone is to blame for the sexualising of a 16 year old is is the record/PR agencies trying desperately to make money on the back of a fading novelty. When the next big thing comes along Chalotte Church will either fade into musical obscurity (believe me she is widely scorned amongst professional singers on the circuit...most wouldn't be seen on the same bill as her) or will have to become more overtly sexual to maintain a public profile.
I have to ask, why is the sexualising of Charlotte Church castigated, but accepted for the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguillera, Billy Piper et al just because they are "pop" rather than classical singers?
Jet Dragon 2nd May 2002, 22:58 For one thing they're a bit older!!!

Tartan Gannet 2nd May 2002, 23:18 Dont think you understood me. I CONDEMN the fact that on her Birthday all one could find on the Net and in countless e-mails was "CHARLOTTE CHURCH LEGAL!"
No mention of this young lady in respect of her singing ability, (I like it), or that she has sung for the Pope and the US President, but only the size of her bum.
O tempora, o mores!" :(
Jet Dragon 2nd May 2002, 23:26 In that case you have my apologies TG.
JD:)
West Coast 3rd May 2002, 06:20 Honest to God, some of you need help. She is 16 years old.
Slasher 3rd May 2002, 06:57 Yeh your right Westy. 16 is a bit too young isnt it.
We'd better wait till shes 17........... :D
traveler 3rd May 2002, 07:26 The question on who determines these winners is a valid one.
If 95 % of the voters are people between 15 and 20 years old,
would you feel differently about this ?
