Hi, im based in Southampton and wondered if anyone out there can recommend a flying school in which to undertake a PPL course in? I guess 45 mins max driving time so that puts me in range of Popham, Thruxton, Blackbushe, Goodwood(just about) . Any advice most appreciated.
Thanks,Andy

Thruxton is pretty good with hard and cross grass runways plus PAPIs, ATC and fuel, in other words a good mix of environments. Western Air Training is the school and they use PA28s Archers and Arrow, Decathlon for tailwheel, aerobatics and Cougar for twin training. I suggest you visit them all and see how you get on. I have no connection with above just my observations.

You are also well placed for Lee on Solent Home - Hampshire Aeroplane Club (http://www.flyhac.co.uk/)

Hey

Im in portsmouth had the same issue 2 years ago when I was looking to learn.

I am now just over 40 hours into my PPL at Phoenix Aviation | Flying Club | Flight Training (http://www.phoenixaviation.net) great bunch of people and very good rates.

Check out site shows you rates and web cam and other bits.

Not to far from you either. I was looking at bournemouth and Shoreham but you gotta take into account the distance and travelling time.

Best to ring them first rather than just head down to visit, security for getting in is much easier than it used to be but it might be best if they know in advance you are coming.
