I am trying to decipher the wartime Record of Service of a friend's father who served as a Wireless Operator flying for 1,617 hours on Ansons in Canada.

His trade on mustering is given as "W.Op XS". Can anyone tell me what the "XS" means?

By the way, I can find no trace of an Air Gunner's course so he would appear to have been a straight W.Op.

Ah! From the title I thought this thread was about the excitability of our Italian friends.

JW,

Have you tried posting on The War In The Air - WW2 Talk (http://ww2talk.com/forums/forum/16-the-war-in-the-air/) ?
