Just a few screen grabs for those members overseas and who may not yet be able to view the BBC broadcast earlier today.

Must have been at least a 25/30 Kts head wind ... but the formation arrived bang on mark ... well done everyone :D:D:D:D

Great shame the Lanc was unescorted :(

A well-flown flypast, despite very challenging, turbulent conditions.

The arrival back at Brize looked good - the VC10 / TriStar pair in particular.

Nice to have heard the Sound of Freedom again!

Well done, everyone!

Yes, just watched the highlights programme as otherwise engaged this morning. Fantastic parade, and a great flypast, and a lovely shot of the Paris Air Attache walking down the Mall with the French Air Attaché. Good evening JM.

Must do something about the dust in the air this evening

Just watched the Flypast on Beeb2 HD. Superb in all respects. Having been involved in the prep for a couple of flypasts for the Queen on her birthday over the years, it is always a very special event for me.

Wander00, Strange how the dust on the TV cabinet always seems to affect my eyes also when I watch.

The Lanc needs no escort. Wonderful all on it's own. Well done all :D

Thank you Coffman Starter for your screen grabs, I am one of those less fortunate though I immediately came to PPRune (did not even look elsewhere) anticipating some kindly soul might have posted something. Pretty good show given the scant resources these days. Again, thanks.

Ah Bless... I hope their Mummies gave them a great big kiss and an extra helping of pudding for tea for being such brave little Airmen

Some lovely shots of the QBF as it passed over RAF Halton airfield for their Families' Day celebrating their 'Centenary of Flight' (1913-2013). I've posted links to the sites as I know how twitchy some aviation enthusiast get about copyright:

FighterControl ? Home to the Military Aviation Enthusiast ? View topic - Queens Birthday Flypast RAF Halton 15th June 2013 (http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&p=507232)

Other aircraft added to the spectacle at Halton including a JP5 doing a magnificent display, a Miles Hawk Speed 6 that also displayed at Silverstone, a very brave Tiger Moth pilot flying DE470 in very challenging winds and the RV8ors Display Team. :ok:

An etiquette question which I can't fathom out. Why was practically everyone in the Royal Family in uniform except HRH Prince Andrew. Perhaps he was not in the parade? Even so. Perhaps he can't get into it any more :E

Sorry sir!

Sorry sir!

IIRC the only uniforms worn by members of the Royal family were those of the Guards Division or Household Cavalry. The Duke of York does not hold any honorary appointments within the Guards Division or Household Cavalry.

Prince Edward wasn't in guards uniform but was wearing the uniform of The London Scottish (a territorial regiment attached to the Household Division) of which he is the honorary colonel. Covered two years ago here:

http://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/454223-trooping-colour.html

Nothing to add to the comments on the flypast, but just like to say that the parade itself was just superb, as always. Good TV commentaries from all considered, and some good horsey input from Clare Balding - congratulations to her on her OBE :ok:

Exactly as TTN says, namely as Royal Colonel of the London Regiment. Not aware why the Earl of Wessex wears the Hodden Grey kilt of the London Scottish rather than the uniform of any of the other companies.

And the Duke of York? He was wearing, rather cleverly in the circumstances I suggest, a Royal Navy tie!http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/thumbs.gif

Excellent parade and flypast. Heartwarming to see the Queen enjoying the occasion too.
TTN, Clare is a top notch commentator, in my opinion, and very worthy of her OBE

Hence my specific choice of wording - 'Guards Division' not 'Foot Guards'. The London Regiment has been part of the Guards Division since 2004.

As for the Earl's choice of London Regiment uniform - I'm guessing that he is spoilt for choice as each of the Regiment's companies has its own cap badge. I'm not sure why he seems to prefer that of A(London Scottish) Company.

Possibly because Hodden Grey (that's the name for that sort of pink kilt) was the tartan of the original London Scottish regiment. Only know because in a very proud day in about 1960 my school pipe band in which I was a lowly drummer beat the London Scottish band in the Open Pipe Band Competition t the highland games at Harpenden - they were not best please at being beaten by "a bunch of school kids"

Now I feel the urge to take a 3-view drawing of a VC-10 and move the horizontal stabilizers off the T-tail... and stick them onto the fore fuselage as canards... :} :E

One hates to be picky about uniform protocol (a lie - one rather enjoys it! ;)), but this picture from the Buck House balcony at the Trooping flypast in 2009 shows Prince William in RAF and Tim Laurence in RN uniforms.

http://www.celebitchy.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/fp_3152300_barm_queens_birthday_061309.jpg

Surely the rules for the Trooping haven't changed that recently??

Was Will's Royal Colonel in 2009, and is Admiral Tim still serving?

teeteringhead
19th Jun 2013, 14:52
Admiral Tim was still serving in 2009 - he retired in August 2010, and Prince William's Royal Colonel appointment was a Wedding Present from Granny in 2012 (along with the Dukedom!) - allegedly to stop him getting wed as a Flt Lt!

Not sure that addresses the assertion from Climebear that: IIRC the only uniforms worn by members of the Royal family were those of the Guards Division or Household Cavalry. The Duke of York does not hold any honorary appointments within the Guards Division or Household Cavalry.

And of course any retired officer can still wear uniform on ceremonial occasions.

I think I'll go with the fact that D of Y can't get into his No 1 any more - it's a common failing!

Continuing in the sentiment of the thread, it was really nice to see how genuinely happy HM was over her victory at Ascot yesterday. When you consider the mind-numbing tedium of a lot of her duties that she nevertheless carries on dutifully at an age when many have long since settled for slippers and daytime TV, it is good to see her really enjoying herself.

No doubt the chattering classes will resent her participation in what is an elite sport (as an owner that is) but I say good luck to her :ok:
