View Full Version : The Hawker 800's birthday went unnoticed

Arguably the most successful postwar British aircraft design went unnoticed!

On Sunday the 26th May the Hawker 800 was 30 years old. The only thing I could find about it was here:

How a design remained contemporary (http://www.allaero.com/news/how-a-design-remained-contemporary)

Sad that it wasn't even acknowledged!

I was busy flying the machine. :ok:

Our Fleet Manager sent out something for the HS125's 50th though :)

Perhaps if it was still being built in Britain instead of being taken to the US and abandoned, it would have been celebrated as it should have been

Redsnail - I noticed a number of organisations paid tribute to the50th anniversary last year including Hawker Beechcraft, which wasironic as it pulled the plug a few weeks later!

Which fleet are you - if you don't mind me asking?

I fly the 800XP with the Collins Proline 21.
Also fly the H750 as well.

I see. Not wishing to go too off topic does having the luggage pannier makes much differences? Obviously to fly you're carting around less weight, but do passengers prefer or notice having extra luggage capacity?

Is the 750 actaully popular with passengers? I understand it has the pania for extra luggage but do passengers notice? Does it make for a better flight for pilots?

It's an awkward space. Very hard to fit any thing very bulky. It fits our crew cases and the extra TKS bottles. It's also handy for putting the boxes of bottled water in too. There's no discernible difference in handling. Most pax wouldn't notice it.
Downside is we lose 1500 lb of fuel and the MTOM reduced to 27,000lb.

Not surprised.

The HS 125 4BRA was a great little bird, it was all downhill from there.

Aviation lore has it that a Hawker is the fastest way you can get to the nearest MRO.:E

Operated all series from the 1 to the 800XP over 30 years. Wonderful aircraft and difficult to remember any time they let us down. Not the same with the new generation of VERY expensive replacements always expecting the call "it will not start!!" Progress perhaps not??

The Product, as is everything built by BAe, was over engineered but very reliable.

The Company - BAe Corporate Jets was raped by Raytheon and left hung out to dry by Beechcaft.

Thanks for :mad:all:D
