Making a family outing (our first) to Bruntingthorpe for the open day this weekend, any tips etc to get the most out of the day? Any news on what'll be running etc?

You will enjoy it, they run most of the aircraft, finding the entrance from the motorway can be a pain considering its by the motorway, so either use a GPS or write down directions.

Opens about 9 normally it kicks off about 10 ish, if you have kids earplugs or ear defenders might be a good idea as your standing on the side of the runway and they are using reheat, ie loud.. take a camera you will get some awesome pictures, you can also stand up on part of the bank at the end of the runway though can get a bit blowy with dust etc when the Victor does its thing, but you get stunning views down the runway of them doing their thing, all though not a museum in the sense of the word you can get around the aircraft based there, touchy feely, and some have cockpits open etc to view, there is normally burger van etc though you could simply sit on the bank, have a picnic and watch from there if wanted.. It's also a car storage so you will see the odd exotica about, there is a chrome painted Lambo that's parked outside, or was when I have been.

Have to make sure they stay taxi able for another ten years.
So I can take the wee pirate to meet a pair of shot gunned avons in full blower

And yes I know the correct term but I think blower sounds cooler

Went last year, was a great day out. Are you driving or flying in? If you're flying the taxiways are a bit of a dodge the pothole but other than that it's a great day out especially if like me you worked on most of the stuff that roars down the runway. I think the guys at Brunters do a great job of keeping one of the best periods of our aviation history alive, hats off to you gentlemen.

I can also recommend the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington near York for a day out, you can fly in there as well.

Thanks for the advice etc; we had a brilliant day out and will be doing it again. Even though we missed the lightning, the Bucc was the star of the show (I'm biased on this I know), "lots of dust in the air", took me back 30ish years to when a family friend made 2 very low, very slow passes over our house in a Mk50. :ok:

Glad it was what you expected, they do put on a good show :)
next good one in the area bar Brunty is the Victory Show, it's a bit of a sleeper, just off junction 21'big set piece tank battle with lots of explosions, trench layouts etc, WW2 airshow and close up to the grass strip... What more could one want :)

I understand XR728 has finally been fixed and, is possibly due to run at the next event?
