It seems the Iranian Air Force Arts Research & Crafts Establishment (IAFARCE)
are at it again.

Iran rolls out "stealth' unmanned aircraft - The DEW Line (http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/the-dewline/2013/05/iran-rolls-out-stealth-unmanne.html)

The artillery shell 'missiles' and shopping trolley undercarriage are very clever design features!! :ugh:

the dialectric properties of that radome look similar to my washing up bowl.

Stealthy? It must be the amazing stealth paint they've invented.

Ahh, yes, but have you actually 'seen' one flying around? I haven't either so i think they're onto something...

Blimey, I never saw that coming...

I actually did a double take and checked the article wasn't dated
April 1st.

Someone must have a very good sense of humour.

That radome has come straight from the roof of a leisure boat. Why do they do this? I can understand the internal propaganda value but why invite international ridicule?

19th May 2013, 12:42
It's difficult to tell from the angle that the picture is taken but that seems to be a straight-wing design which makes the wing fence a bit unnecessary.

Perhaps it's some form of strengthening a bit like the tubigrip holding the wing box on?

I wonder who is wasting their time building mock-ups like this and why whoever is paying for it thinks the money is well spent?

Its just like producing full-size Captain Scarlett toys and pretending they're real.
Its an expensive way to gather international ridicule.

Lets hope though that their nuclear industry is run on similar lines.

Utterly bizarre.

Wow that Antenna on the bottom looks like some Tupperware suck to the bottom of the fuselage. I have done a degree in Avionics, all the research onto EM shielding and protection have been solved by Tupperware..

Any bets that this is just a dummy, and its not close to flying, like the claim that they reversed engineered that UAV that crashed last year oh sorry "hacked"

Also Rudder?

Courtney Mil
19th May 2013, 17:03
Rudders are just for QFIs! But why no wiring from the 'hard point' to the fake 60 mm round that doesn't really fit into the canister. The fabric tapes that hold the wings on look solid enough, but they won't get their £1 back from the Morrisons shopping trolley. But, hey, if it does the job, why complain. Have they claimed that it has enough range to hit mainland USA yet?

ofc it's stealthy, it's all plastic...

It appears that the technology used for affixing the wings is well proven :E

Radar-transarent plastic that completely hides the metal components inside. Like the engine. F-35 is plastic, but you can still see it.

Of course, Coff's plane is plastic but has no engine, so probably is a stealth ac.:ok:

Technical update ... Mrs Coff reliably informs me that ray domes of that design can be purchased from Lakeland and have a secondary use as a suitable container to microwave rice :E

Microwave? It's only a short step from there to gas barbecues!

The bottom white piece looks like a Microwave plastic food cover,
well it's the same shape as the one next to my Microwave !

I was more thinking of plastic as in Hasegawa plastic model kit than of CFRP...:)

Indeed! It's difficult to say which of those two devices is the worse.....

Not if you knock up said microwave from a surplus RAF WW2 magnetron :ok:

Unmanned? Yeah, right. If that's 'unmanned' then I'll eat my dinner jacket. Look, it's even got a little peephole at the front for the driver to see where he's going..

On a less savoury note, as it is manned, I think I've just sussed out the purpose of the tupperware underneath ..
'Jettison centreline ordnance' just took on a whole new meaning :ooh:

I imagine it would be less stealthy at take off. That shopping trolley wheel would squeak like buggery!

You might laugh, but many years ago SOAF fitted a yacht radar to a Skyvan, and the Seavan was born... it did not trigger ESM warnings on USN ships, and ISTR one commander was caught out and subsequently was relieved of his command.....
