I've noticed recently Monarch has been using a lot of 'different' aircraft on it's scheduled routes. I saw a couple of days ago they were using a Pullmantur 744 on MAN-PMI and again the same aircraft on a similar touristy route. Today I've seen a Thomson 763 under ZB517 flying BCN-MAN and another Monarch MAN departure (can't remember where to) was using a Neos 738. Are these charter aircraft or is Monarch facing some sort of equipment shortage? Seems odd they would use for example a 744 on MAN-PMI.

Charters will do whaterver they need to plug a gap. PMI is a popular destination and could have two departures that they could combine on one 744.

Who knows......

Trying to respond as best as I can to your comment/question.

Out of Man the A300 (352Y) operate a number of busy shorter routes including BCN, PMI, AGP and FAO. Recently a number of the widebody fleet have been in on maintainance hence the subchartering. It may seam odd us hiring a 747 but when you have to find something that can hold 352Y there arnt as many options as covering for a A321/B757.

On a side note in the summer the A330 also operate some shorter routes including ALC, DLM, PFO, TFS, ACE alongside the longhaul SFB.

Well at least MON haven't used the Eastern European 737's that they used at BHX last year, so far!
