Just a heads up as people are quite often asking on here how to get started as a maintenance Engineer/Technician and I haven't seen Jet2 do this before.

A good old fashioned 4 year apprenticeship on the surface. Only 4 spots but it's something at least.

Jet2 Apprenticeships
Working at their centre of engineering excellence ?

Are you saying that an apprenticeship with jet 2 wouldn't be worthwhile because they choose to maintain their albeit ageing fleet at Leeds. Perhaps you'd rather young people join the dole queue and not learn a very worthwhile trade?

I am not suggesting for one minute younger people should join the dole, in fact we need more engineers in this industry, but I would choose a more established airline with a recognised engineering department!

Both of my sons are apprentices. One in general engineering the other in aviation. Even if they sometimes feel that they do not picture staying at their current employer long term, they should learn as many skills as possible while there. Once any apprenticeship is completed, the world is their oyster. Hopefully four local lads or lasses will embrace the Jet2 apprenticeship and learn the trade properly. There are too many colleges and universities turning out B1 and B2 Licenced engineers that quite frankly are bloody useless for the first few years, combined with massive tuition fees to pay back!

Jet2 should be commended , any company offering proper apprenticeship should be encouraged . They will have a long queue for that position .

Good luck to them and their apprentices !
