Just wondering if anyone has made up a flowchart for a charter operation. The new rules come into action in a couple of days. They seem a bit more complex than the previous ones.

I started making up a flow chart for our cao48 exemption. I didn't get far before I ran out of room. It multiplies very very quickly.

From the Commlaw (http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2013L00628/Explanatory%20Statement/Text) site:

As such, it repeals CAO Part 48 from 30 April 2016. The repeal of CAO 48.0 will result in the lapsing of all exemptions made under it.

Para 4 deals with Transitional arrangements.

To summarise:


If you currently have an AOC, the current/old arrangements will continue until 30 April 2016 unless you elect otherwise.
If you have applied for an AOC before 30 April 2013, which is subsequently granted after, the current/old arrangements will also continue unless you elect otherwise.
If you apply for an AOC after 30 April 2013, bad luck you'd better wrap your head around it.


The flight crew obligation to monitor one's own fatigue and report if necessary is effective 30 April 2013.

The cumulative duty accrued by an FCM during any consecutive 336 hour (14 day) period must not exceed 100 hours.

50 hour work weeks are not in the slightest bit fatiguing...
I can see how making us work more hours a week increases safety :ugh:

I don't think it will worry the ag guys - they seem to have a great bunch of orders authorising them to do the things they need to do.

Good on them, as I understand it they've worked hard over the years to have applicable CAOs and the like published to fit in with what they actually do.

You can sign on before 0700 but with restrictions on the length of shift.

The vast majority of existing operators will be able to adjust to Tier 2 very easily, as it is very similar to many of the existing Standard industry exemptions.

Those choosing to transition early will be forced to accept some commercial disadvantage in the form of slightly reduced flexibility.

If an Operator elects to only operate to Appendix 1 - Basic Limits, (ss 10.2 or ss 11.2) there is no sign-on before 0700 local (Appendix 1 para 2.1.)

The following breakfast briefing sessions are being held for industry to introduce awareness on the new CAO 48.1 fatigue management for flight crew members. These face-to-face briefings will give air operators an overview of details of the instrument, explain the flexibility provided by the legislation, discuss operator and individual responsibilities and provide an opportunity to ask questions and raise issues relating to fatigue management.

Brisbane today I think and Gold Coast tomorrow, both booked out well in advance so couldn't attend
