Is there an Australian record for the number of aircraft taxying on the same runway for a formation exercise?

What about the total aircraft on two runways at the same airport?

For this years Anzac Day flypasts at Albany WA, we had 10 VANS RV's holding on 05, while 4 x PC-9's landed and taxied back on 14. Total of 14 on both runways.

With the Anzac 'Centenary' celebrations due to be run here in November 2014, and April 2015 - we'd be expecting some very large movements at the local.

Years ago at Richmond we managed to get both squadrons of C130 Hercules airborne at one time. Twenty four aircraft in all in a massive formation flypast.

Cheers,
BH.

I remember that day, a real 'aluminum overcast'. Very impressive :D

Aluminium Overcast.

Mate, 36 Squadron got the 12 C130A's up for a formation flypast long long before the 24 aircraft formation, 10th Ocober 1969 to be precise. Ma's pub rocked that night.

Thanks for the postings, but they are all RAAF. Any civilian numbers?

bit unfair to compare military records to GA ones! what other time of the year do civillian pilots get the chance? ;)

Many years ago at Sydney Airport a fuel tanker rolled and deposited its load into the storm water drains at high tide which prevented it running into the bay. It then ignited. Most of the taxiways and hangers had direct drainage into the bay at that time so the fire erupted everywhere. Any aircraft that was towable or taxiable ended up on the only place that didn't have drains, the runway.

I'm not sure how many ended up there but that might provide a civilian record for Australia.

The record in the US would be immediately after Sept 11 when everything was grounded and they physically ended up running out of real estate across the US included most runways.

1999 airshow at Moorabbin had a formation of 22 PA28 from RVAC, Civil and GFS.

now that would be fun. RVAC still do formation ratings don't they?

Not as impressive as the military stuff, but I believe the record in Cairns is 5 on the active at once in regular day to day ops

Yes, RVAC still do formations - on ANZAC Day (I think it was) there were 7 aircraft in one formation that flew over my house.

RACWA still does formations regularly on the last Friday of the month, anything from 2 to 9 aeroplanes. On Australia day we had a formation of 11 Cessnas as well as a Formation 13 Warbirds. We fair cluttered up YPJTs 24R.
