Well after being renamed Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road it appears that Emirates Road is going to make a comeback.

Unfortunately it is a different road.........:uhoh:

Dubai Bypass Road renamed Emirates Road

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has ordered that the Dubai Bypass Road be named the Emirates Road.

They just can't make up their mind (if they have one) as to who to please and who to appease. It is usual in this part of the world to have just "after thoughts" as they don't seem to be having the ability to have "thoughts".

It almost goes without saying that, if ones basic ethos & credo is fundamentally based around a breathtakingly flawed tome, what more can one expect ?! :E

Actually there is a reason for the name change.

The story goes like this: Shk Mo got a call from the Boss in Abu Dhabi who said that the upcoming SALIK-scheme on the Emirates road was not allowed, since Dubai should not profit on the trans-emirate traffic from the capital to Sharja and the other Emirates. The Idea of the Emirates-road was to connect the emirates with an efficient highway and not to create a cash cow for Dubai.

So Mo just swapped some names around and voilá, and as you can see, just shortly after the name change the "weregonnatakeyourmoney-signs" and salik-cam-portals are already up on the "Shk Mohammed bin Zayed Highway", aka the Old Emirates road...

For those of us that don't drive the Sk Mo, old EK Road, or the 311.... Where are these new Salik gates being installed? I've seen the ones on Mimzar and the tunnel but didn't know the 311 would be affected. :ugh:

Don't forget that there are two roads numbered D61 and there is also a D611 which is labelled as D61 in one direction and D611 in the other. Not to mention that Junction 33 is actually Junction 37 and that Junctions 34-36 don't exist!
