casa iRex question

Hey guys just a few quick questions about the CASA iRex exam, just wondering how many marks is in it and why you get 3.5 hours??? Ive just about finished bob tait irex and im yet to see a question worth more than one mark :s.

I realise the questions might involve looking through multiple sources of information (ERSA, ERC low, AIP, CAO) but that doesnt even take that long anyway.

And also is the exam questions anything like the bob tait iREX questions?? Is there anything I should be worried about or anything that has caught people out on the exam?? Just wondering cause everyone ive spoken to says its a very tough exam but I havent found the subject that bad at all tbh, I prefer it much more than systems!!!

Baron boy, The only thing you have to worry about is going into the exam with an attitude like yours. You never stop learning in this game mate. If you think you have it all wrapped up because you answered a few Bob Tait questions correctly then it just shows your level of intelligence. Hope you don't see.....69%. :E

I did it fairly recently and didn't find it too difficult. If you know Bob Tait's book well and can answer all his questions you should be right. 3.5 hours was heaps of time.

What's wrong with his attitude? He has studied hard and done lots of practice exams. He is simultaneously confident and a little worried. Sounds like me, right before every ATPL exam and every job interview. Please don't flame me too!

I'd like to help you Baron, but I never did the Aust IREX. I'm quite sure though, having done the ATPLs , that CASA have gone out of their way to make the simple, complicated. I might recommend some practice exams by another author, if you've any doubts about it. A wide variety of practice exams is likely to pick up anything you've missed in your formal study.

Was there any questions on the CASA exam which were not covered in AFT's material? Any that took you by surprise? Sitting the exam soon and need all the help I can get. Was it tailored around a specific area of the study material. Cheers.

That was a post of yours from a couple of years ago. Almost identical to the one by the Baron.

Back when I did the exam, Bob Tait was perfect study prep. Know the law, and/or know where to find it in the regs, but be aware, the exam is all about attempting to trip you up. Unless something's changed recently, IREX is an exercise in RTFQ a number of times over and identifying where it's trying to trip you up - as most of the harder questions do.

IREX study gives you a good base of book knowledge to get your CIR issued, which in turn gives you the bare skills necessary to not kill yourself under the IFR. The actual learning then begins.

There are other publications which are better sources of overall IFR theory... But are inferior at simply preparing you for the exam. Once the rating is issued... Absorb every bit of knowledge you can. For now, get yourself over the exam line.

Ebby, I see nothing wrong with his attitude, unlike yours.

Hey mate. I didn't find Bob Tait too tedious either, but with that, a lot of my friends failed a couple of times, and they solely relied on Bob.

If you can get a hold of, or buy the Rob Avery practice exams, and are confidently able to answer the questions in them, then you'll smash the CASA exam. I found the Rob Avery ones a lot harder than CASA exam.

I sat IREX a couple of years ago now, but only used Bob's notes and the AIP DAPs. Passed no worries first go. As others have said, RTFQ several times!
