Dear customer,

Please find attached a London City Airport communication regarding remodelling and refurbishments program planned for London City Airport Jet Centre.

In summary:

London City Airport are refurbishing the lower floor of the Jet Centre to modernise the building, improving on the current Reception area and creating a large private lounge connected to a new state of the art meeting room for passengers’. The flow of passengers’ and crew, through the arrivals and departure processes will be eased and the Security Screening function moved, updated and relocated to a new, private area where discreet checks can be carried out before boarding.

This refurbishment will also deliver staff resource onto one floor and offer a more one to one tailored service for your passengers’ and crew.

It is our intention to de-restrict the Jet Centre apron, removing the need for security screening for those flights that operate outside Department for Transport (DfT) NASP screening requirements. Flights under 10 tonnes, or that are operated privately, will no longer undergo security screening and the passengers’ journey to their jet will be far simpler and quicker.

We recognise that the arrival experience at LCY is not as seamless as our passengers would wish, and shortly after the refurbishment works have finished, we will be adding a Border Force officer to the team at the Jet Centre. This is a dedicated facility for your customers, which will make the journey to their car much faster.

Although the majority of work will be achieved outside of opening hours, it is possible your passengers may see and feel the change happening - for this we apologise in advance.

The remodelling works will take around six weeks to complete. We appreciate that externally influences have not may it easy for us to offer the product you engage us to deliver, but I hope these changes will move us back in line with your expectation and service delivery to your customers.

Please rest assured there will be no additional delays incurred during the works and we look forward to seeing you and your clients at our refurbished, streamlined Jet Centre in the near future.

Best Regards

Donie Braddick

I thought all security proceedures were driven by the DoT?

A positive step, but will it happen, and will it be paid for by increasing the already extotionate fees?

Too little too late I'm afraid.

@yotty, the DfT is the new name for DoT.... I think thats the only difference!

They can´t smell the coffee since the coffee machine is always broken.

Not talking about the NJE machine, that works usually....

If that was the case, similar considerations should apply to all UK airports. Let's hope so.

For example, the £1500 "security charge" to fly your own private aircraft in and out of LHR is outrageous and the procedures are flawed/ineffective in any case.
