From plane talking;

Qantas sources say that the airline will add Sydney and Melbourne tag flights to Canberra to all its A380 services in coming weeks to give pilots flying the giant Airbus more practice in take-offs and landings.

This will result in at least four return A380 services a day to Canberra, or two each from Sydney and Melbourne, serving both domestic flyers and those flying to or from Dubai or Los Angeles to the national capital.

Some creative accounting to make it work.

That's funny. Just imagining how annoying it would actually be, you'd spend twice as long loading as the duration of the flight.

Yep, it's that date of the month...

.86 at 4000ft; even I'd be impressed by that! Talk about near-Sonic booms...

Thread drift: nice job flying over Shidonee yesterday.

Ya jesting me?!

Stick Sonic and RCDC in the seats and they'd do it first time with no dramas. Form is form, after all.

Yeah, don't think it was that long. 300 'man hours' maybe? I know that the QF aeroplane had at least 3 and possibly 4 crew on the flight deck. If EK had the same it's 300/ 8 for a more likely 37.5 hours in the sim. Probably a fair bit of time spent timing turns, trying them again, working out different alignments to get the best shot of aircraft over the Opera House, bridge, etc.

The news reported that the pilots spent 300 hours in the simulator in preparation.... whether or not it's true, I have no idea, I can only assume so, because the news is always an impeccably reliable source.
