Hello all,

Just some info for those of you Stateside that may be interested in flydubai. We will be attending the job fair listed below next month. This is an information distribution type affair, and our HR as well as one of our pilots will be attending (not me).

With the major carriers like Delta, UAL and even American expected to increase hiring over the next few years (Delta will hire 700-800 a year starting in the next 18-24 months from what I have read), FlyDubai better be a GREAT deal if it expects to lure Americans away from the legacies and fast-growing LCCs. I know they are planning more road shows around the world - I'm not sure which locations have been approved. We do have assessments through CTC in Dubai on occasion, so those interested in this part of the world should email CTC and ask about the Dubai assessments.

As for luring away guys in the US - I am a furloughed US legacy carrier pilot with 13 years seniority, and I am at flydubai. Everyone has their own situation, and I'm sure that for some of the lower time guys that are not competitive in the US, the pay and equipment, as well as experience flydubai offers will attract some Americans. That said, it certainly isn't all rosy at flydubai, but I do think it can offer something to some of the US pilot population.

Just trying to help spread the news of opportunity for those looking. Do your own research, including reading the threads here. Talk to anyone you may know in the region. After that, determine if flydubai may be something that suits your situation at this stage in your life.

I do agree with what Randy does say, even if I did attemt to raise the problem of USA > UAE migration.

The problem is deeper that first appears... the existing experienced pilot base is reducing rapidly, but fortunately there are many low houred pilots in USA/ Europe that can be absorbed in the Middle East, with large training departments, and budget to match.

As stated IF the USA does increase its Pilot needs over the next few years they will require experienced crew, to replace the losses...... where will these bodies come from......

Thus the ME must improve its conditions of employment.....unless the first batch comes from China.

Just thinking out loud.

When Delta starts hiring in the next 12-18 months, I have been told they will need 600-800 pilots per year with 70+ 717s, 20+ MD90s and 100+ 737-900ERs coming online (plus normal attrition). Reading the other boards, you get a sense that many people who would have considered the ME (or some currently employed there) will be looking at the US legacies including Delta, UAL and soon American Airlines (AA) will be hiring again.

What's the point? The ME and Chinese/Korean airlines better start improving their terms if they want to hold on to many of the American Expats. Probably good news for us Europeans who will take the vacated positions with EK, QR, FlyDubai and others...

I would be surprised (if not shocked) if a American EK captain returned to the US to raise the gear for the next seven-to-ten years before another chance of command

But if the family is not happy in the ME and the American expat can get on with Delta or UAL and return with the family to the States, all bets are off. 3 majors in the States will all be hiring in roughly the next 12-18 months (in addition to a few strong LCCs like Jet Blue and Spirit) and I assume the ME carriers are probably aware of that...

Hopefully more opportunities for us Europeans down the road! :ok::cool::p

I respectfully disagree. Maybe the family returns. But most of the family's who chose to return would have done so before the pilot becomes a Capt, now you have a guy making very good tax free (and deductions, with family) plus the time-on-type to later maybe take a comuting CA position with even greater salary? For what? To fly a narrowbody 3 stages a day with crappy airport food in a Holiday Inn Express commuting to LGA or CLE?? And even better to listen to the Cat Rancher FA's b!tch constantly??!

Not the case, most middle east airlines' training facilities are stretched well over limit, hence long delays from "passed the selection" until training date, and possibly more delays after one is "on the property"

@ The Turtle...you are probably not far off the mark there, it would depend on the age of the person, and his potential financial loss, weighed against his obvious lifestyle gains...yes It is not inconceivable at all this will happen more than once

Does anyone know, if the FD assessments in Miami are purely on invitational basis. I will be in Miami for holiday:cool: during that time, And would like to attend if there is a roadshow/presentation.:8

Chances are its only upon invitation. It's not really an open house, just interviews or "assessments" using PanAm facilities...

I applied online and got an invitation 2 days after. It will be an interview performed by CTC guys using Panam facilities , i think. I'm not 737 rated and applied for DEC position.
