Malaysia Airlines flight MH122, B777-200, possibly 9M-MRA, Sydney (SYD) to Kuala Lumper International (KUL) returned to Sydney after departure today. It was scheduled for a 15:30 departure local time (04:30GMT). According to the Flightradar24.com tracker the 777 departed runway 16R, turned left towards the Pacific Ocean rather than the usual right turn to take up it's heading and then flew a rectangular flight path out over the ocean. This path took the 777 north along the coastline to Pittwater, then another right turn out to sea, followed by a right turn southbound parallel to the coast. The aircraft then turn inland and joined final for 16R but flew overhead down the runway (an inspection from the tower perhaps?) before joining the traffic circuit and successfully landing on 16R. Sydney airport website shows MH122R as landing at 16:51 local.

OK, thanks. That was a quick resolution to the query. Much appreciated. Wondered what was happening when it flew overhead my place with the gear & flaps down and cutting into the circuit. :ok:
