I beleive I heard and ID a non military, "Huey" UH-1 or Augusta flying North over West Yorkshire yesterday. Can some one confirm I am correct, as I know there are very few of these in the UK, and indeed this is the first I have ever seen in recent years in the UK. MODS please move to rotorhead forum if you beleive I would get quicker response. Thanks in anticipation.:)

I believe that there is one resident somewhere in Yorkshire, so maybe that's what you saw. It's in US Army green colours.

There is a nice civil blue white and yellow one at Leeds Coney Park and I believe a USAF one somewhere near Preston?

Don't forget the UK army have Bell 212s.

There was one carrying underslung loads south of the Woodhead Pass last weekend (I've seen that one at least twice before in a similar location).

I believe there is an ongoing Peak District Parks contract of some sort. As a guess, carrying building materials for new paths.

G-UHIH (geddit?), based on a farm near Preston, masquerades as US Army 72-21509:

It was civil Blue and White, and direction of flight would be from Woodhead heading towards Leeds. Thanks all for help, must say they are perhaps my favourite helecopter with that very distinctive sound.

I've seen one over Bridport in Dorset a couple of times last year. Have a feeling it was in white and orange but my memory may be failing me. I got rather excited about it but my work colleagues just think i'm a bit dull - they're probably right :-)

Could it have been this one? These were taken last year, I think, but might be a new contract...

I suspect it was the Blue and White one based in Leeds (not a gunship !!) given direction of flight but thanks all for your info and picks:ok:.

Huey 72-21509 (pictured above 'masquerading') flew with the 129th AHC in Vietnam in1972/73. She was restored to flying condition in the States before being airfreighted over here. Check out huey.co.uk for more details.

Apart from the machine based at Leeds Bradford there is/was a white 205 based on the western fringes of Saddleworth Moor at Upperwood House on the Holmefirth Road (A635). It has been there for at least a couple of years for airlifting materials to repair the paths over the moors as Shy Torque mentioned earlier.

apparently the German registered white Huey is operating once again in the Saddleworth area with an MD500 helping. This video is from a couple of years ago which I came across whilst looking for something else.

apparently the German registered white Huey is operating once again in the Saddleworth areaI though we had established that D-HAFH is now on the UK register ?

GINFO Search Results | Aircraft Register | Operations and Safety (http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1&mode=detailnosummary&fullregmark=UHGB)

Are we talking about a different D-registered Huey here ?

I doubt it Dave, more like trying to communicate with birds of very little brain who are able to read only what they wish to believe which may or may not coincide with the information being presented. :ugh: :ugh:

My appologies for the audacity to seem to ignore what you said. It is indeed now on the UK register as you correctly point out. I just thought anyone who hadn't seen the video might appreciate it and at the time of the filming it was German registered. A picture/video beats a thousand words.
