Currently in Aus flying 206's and got my flight review coming up...
Question: Does this BFR have to be done through a flight school?
Or can I hire a grade 2/1 to come review me in a private 172?

Has to be done through a flying school.
Some mention of this in the AFR CAAP.

Do something fun like aerobatics or tailwheel with a grade one and have it signed off. Might as well has some fun with your money!
I presume you're flying commercially, if so, why doesn't your ATO competency check count as a BFR? Can't see why it cannot, it does over here.
