Croydon Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croydon_Airport)

According to Wikipedia, Croydon Airport on the south edge of London (which closed on 30 September 1959) , has ICAO code EGCR, shown with strikeout as on the Wikipedia page linked to above. As it is long closed, is the strikeout a part of the official ICAO code?

I thought the ICAO location indicator for Croydon was EGGG. EGCR is allocated to Ashcroft Airfield.

I thought the ICAO location indicator for Croydon was EGGG.As the linked article indicates, EGGG was the code for the AFTN/CIDIN hub at Croydon, whereas EGCR was used by Croydon Airport between March 1959 (when the EGxx ICAO codes were introduced) and September 1959 (when it closed).
