Hi there - does anyone know why a 777 (a scruffy looking one, with all the logos painted out) has joined the old classic 747s on Death Row at Cardiff? I know that BA are losing the classics, but was not aware that the 777 fleet was being trimmed as well.

Think the registration is painted out as well.

There is an article in this months Airliner World (which I can't track down right now) that mentions that BA are getting rid of a couple of 777 along with thier entire classic range of 747's.

Classics already gone (EAC?), BA looking to get rid of 5 long haul aircraft. Ideally 744s but little or no buyers, so BA will probably have to lose 5 777s, much more saleable, apparently. All will have changed by next week though!

When the original 5 "A" market machines were leased there was an early termination clause written into the last two deals which happened to come up this year. Thus G-ZZZD and G-ZZZE are being stood down at CWL and when I'm next at work I will check in FICO to see which of the two has arrived there first. (No you're thinking logically - it might be 'ZZE!)

The fate of upto 5 later aircraft is in the hands of the market.......

checking on:

commercial jet aircraft census (http://www.bird.ch/bharms/asr_sh00.htm)

This shows both D and E stored at CWL. this site is usually up to date to within a week or so. I seem to remember seeing that Echo was there first though.

Appears that ZZE got there first (according to http://www.lhr-lgw.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk). ZZD was still in service as of Sunday.
