One good example I can think of of direct intervention of a fast jet in a tricky hostage situation was the Dutch F-104 during the South Moluccan terrorists taking hostages on a train and kids school on the same day back in the 1970s whereby the Starfighters contributed to the success of the former by using afterburner to shake the occupants of the train carriages at low speed pass, helping the Unit Interventie Mariners to storm thereafter.

Can anyone remember back in history whereby a FJ crew assisted in paving the way to help the good guys rescue the damsels in distress etc etc :)

Not hostages, but the Aussie SAS used US Navy F14's (I think) to capture an Iraqi cement factory intact by creating sonic booms to scare the defenders out.

Good one, I was going to post that one.

The other, although not "fast jets" but jets was the re routing of aircraft coming
into and going from at Heathrow during the Iranian Embassy siege to cover up
other activities.

Not FJ, but the equivalent of their day.
