Would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction; trying to find out which Squadron and aircraft type was involved in the bombing of the SS Torino at Luino, Lake Maggiore, Italy on 25 Sep 1944.

Thanks in anticipation.

(If "Aviation History and Nostalgia" forum would be more appropriate please feel free to move this thread).

Hi Russ,

I am trying to find out exactly the same information for a friend in Switzerland who is writing a book about the S.S. Torino for the 100th anniversary of it's launch in 1913.

I have been informed that the bombing was probably carried out by allied forces in the form of the USAAF US 12th airforce bomber command or 57th bombardment wing but have not been able to confirm this.

Could you let me know if you find out any further information.

Thanks

Andi
