A little light entertainment here for all naval aviators. Hope his post event vodka and no biscuits meeting wasn't too uncomfortable!

Flankers high AoA capability and thrust even without reheat helped. Don't try this with a Banana.

Imagine wath if he grabbed a cable afterall..

Cool vid - best bit is if you click on the top left tile at the end and watch the tribute to Sukhoi. Hilarious stuff - the Russian solution to the B-2 is some drawings.

Those plans look like some of those 1960's era lifting body studies for low-orbital spacecraft. Straight out of TV21 or "Look and Learn".....

One lucky, lucky Ivan. In-flight arrestment would definitely have ruined his day. Bet the flight suit laundry bill was spectacular.....

Na - if he'd snagged a wire all he'd have to have done is kick in reheat and he could have dragged the carrier skywards....................

It is better to stop and then land, than to land and then stop!

If he had trapped he would probably have broken the cross deck pendant. The purchase cables wouldn't be able pay out due to the angle and would foul on the sheeves. Assuming the standard carrier 1 1/4 inch cross deck pendant which has a breaking strain of 150,000 lbs if he didn't snap it there would have been a rather large fire ball on the deck!

Re the failed 'bolter' in the video I have often wondered what the survival figures were for such ejections if you didn't manage to angle away? Not to mention the dent in the ship.........................

I've never really understood the argument myself. Better surely to have the better aeroplane..then work out how to land it?
