Folks, a friend of mine who lives in Thailand took a picture of this print in a bar somewhere. He's quite interested to know a little more about it. Where/when/Sqn etc.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Looks like the pan at Aldergrove, which means 72 (and the weather is certainly Irish!)

I can be more specific - I think it would be the arrival of the Sqn from Benson to take up residence (after a mere 12 years of regular detachments!) which would make the date 12th November 1981.

And if you look closely you might see me! ;)

Not unless you were back on 72 between Jul '90 and Mar '92, th

Can't remember the occasion, I'm not in it, I was on a Y453 overnight on the big day.

So,

72 Sqn
Aldergrove
sometime between Jul 90 and Mar92, probably in the first half of that period as it's Santini at the front.

Isn't there a Chinook in the back of the left row? If so why?

Think there is more than one.

Chinook Det was parented by 72. If I'd have spotted that I'd have known it wasn't 1981 ......

The eyes are not as young as they used to be!

It is indeed '72' on the pan at Aldergrove. If I recall it was Mar 91 and the occasion was the handover from ''The Great Santini'' to Brin S. It was a full Squadron turnout, as all province tasking was delayed whilst the aircraft and crews returned for the photo. The photographer is in a Gazelle hovering at about 100ft above the lower end of the pan. If my guess is correct this print was placed in the bar, by our Rhodesian cultural attache Rick B, who is on the end of the left hand second row. The engineers worked like demons to get all the cabs in place and then back onto spots so we could return to the FOBs. And for further info the Chinooks and Pumas were attached to 72 'D' Flt whilst in province.

Gentlemen, I would have been back much sooner with thanks for replies had the 'email alert' worked. Many thanks. My friend is very grateful and is following this thread now.
