Browsing through a local antiques fair yesterday ... I came across what appears to be some kind of stamp cover commemorating the demise of 35 Squadron. It seems to have been flown (with others ?) on a training sortie in XM446 on the 1st Feb 1982.

I'm no stamp collector ... but parted with my £1.50 to keep as a curiosity.

Thirty years ago  ... but I'd be very interested to hear a little more of the background to the trip ... maybe even hear from some of the crew :ok:

Best regards ...

Valuable cover there Coff; misprints are always more valuable than accurate ones.

446 was XL446 not XM.

Regrettably you won't hear from the Nav Plotter.....

'Max' Collier was the Nav Plotter on the first crew with whom I was crewed on 35 Sqn in 1977; he was later killed during Gulf War 1 when he and his pilot, Wg Cdr Nigel Elsdon were thought to have been shot down by an SA-3 minutes after a successful JP233 attack on Shaibah.

RIP, Max.

PN, BEagle ...

If I can "drift" my own thread ... have either of you guys come across a Pete Wallis or an Ian Lienster in your V Force travels ? I lost touch with both of them some 35 years ago ... both good friends.

Pete and Ian were ex Vulcan pilots from the late 60's early 70's. Pete left to become a big wig in the CPS (he was a lawyer) with Ian retiring to teach at the Thanet Tech College (Electronics/Physics).

Not sure if they are still around though ...

Best ...
