Whats going on with Dnata at LHR? There's talk of redundancies and lost of more contracts! :bored: And with Swissport buying out Servisair, they are rumoured to be after Virgin at LHR! Is this the beginning of the end to Dnata short stint at LHR?

andi_uk
31st Aug 2013, 01:48
dnata will never work at LHR !!!

They can't maintain the high standard of the brand and the quality service they provide elsewhere. The fact that dnata UK is purely handle by ex-aviance management is the evidence that dnata in this country will never have a future !

Management is CRAP
Work Environment is POOR
Staff NOT MOTIVATED

If they stay as a brand they will handle only EK once the contract will expire with ASIG and probably they will retain the QF contract because of the commercial agreements with EK/QF flghts.

Most of the other contracts are "Star Alliance" airlines - once all the star alliance members move to the new T2 ... dnata will be just a dedicated handling agent to EK.

Menzies Aviation will be appointed to handle ALL the Star Alliance Airlines in T2 !!!

The biggest contract for dnata at the moment is Singapore Airlines. Apparently they are not even happy how things are going with the ground staff.

So once they lose this contract they can only focus on "Cargo Business" with the dnatacity project and remain entirely a dedicated agent exclusively for Emirates Airlines.

That's simply not going to be the case.

Star Alliance Appoints ASIG Passenger Services Handler At London Heathrow?s Terminal 2 (http://www.aviationpros.com/press_release/11141805/star-alliance-appoints-asig-passenger-services-handler-at-london-heathrows-terminal-2)

From what I've heard (and the above article suggest that) T2 will be split into zones and each zone will see a dedicated handling agency.

We'll see.

irish-ramper
6th Sep 2013, 10:38
I agree with your 3 highlighted points, it wont work until those managers and ex Aviance staff have gone. Until then it won't work. I think Dnata are running the ramp business down so they can get rid off dead wood staff and management, then rebuilt there business from scratch.

Menzies won't be the handler for Star Alliance contratcs in T2 as they have just lost Air Zealand, TAP, Aegean and Asiana as from spring 2014. Thats confirm from a Menzies employee it was on there notice board. ASIG is taking over the ground handling for those airlines..

Air Canada will self handle in T2. DNATA have 3 Star Alliance contracts as it stands what happens to them who knows.

At the the moment there is a lot of rumours flying around.

irish-ramper
6th Sep 2013, 10:42

edi_local

i think that part is true. But Menzies won't be the only handler in T2. Thats fact.

That's true.

Menzies did indeed release a letter stating that ASIG was taking over the airlines you mentioned.

T2 will be split in to zones which will see various airlines housed together. From what I gather ASIG will be running the front of house show for those airlines in zone D, which will be economy class check in.

Details are thin on the ground at the moment, but we could see a situation where, for example, Menzies (or anyone else for that matte) could handle those exact same airlines in, say, Zone A for premium check in. Swissport could also handle all the ticket desks for those very same airlines in Zone B while DNATA handles their ramp duties and so on.

It all seems a bit confusing at the moment but Menzies will most certainly not be the sole handlers in T2.

kazzie
10th Sep 2013, 15:07
Asiana, TAP, Aegean and NZ are only lost for menzies at Check-in.. As far as we know, Menzies are still handling them in terms of ramp and ops.

the contract has been renewed some time in 2011 (March/April) for further 3 years with Cobalt.
The transatlantic joint-venture DL+VS begins this summer time, they also talk about to develop a strong partnership in the on a series of improvements on the ground and in the air that will be particular appealing to corporate customers.

It's very likely that Cobalt will lose the contract.

Got confirmation form a friend that works at BFS and with Menzies that Swissport won the Easyjet contract as they tendered a very low bid to win the contract.
Now what happened to Swissport back in i think 2004 when they went bust in LHR in T1 and over night they close up shop and left. There making a come back in the uk putting in low bids to win airline contracts.. Could it happened again??????

It can't work as you still need the same bodies to do the work so they must be offering a very bad wage.

Does anybody know what there going rate of pay is?

Why does everyone think swissport or servisair for that matter, think they will go bust because they under cut menzies? Both companies would not put in a bid, unless it made money! Anyway menzies have undercut everyone for years, menzies have lost easyjet because they cannot provide the service simple! Just because servisair/swissport have won big easy contracts at big bases, everyone jumps the gun & has to discredit them. Menzies time has come to end, about time! I know people who said servisair would not last 6 months, when they lost easy at BRS 5 years ago & other stations. Servisair may be more money, but you pay for what you get! TUPE will keep you all in work!!!!

kazzie

Menzies GLA was one of the top performing stations for EZY And they still lost the contract last year after being undercut by Servisair Smart. Handling agents are undercutting each other so much for business that they will take a loss just to gain contacts..

Anymore news on the rumour of Menzies getting TCX at most Uk airports? The way things are going Menzies needs more customer airlines in the UK as the new Swissport is so big throughout the UK...

From what I heard was that TCX asked for a 20% reduction from Swissport to which they fell of their chairs laughing. However, If Menzies agree to handle them at such a low price then it proves that no lessons have been learned regarding taking on contracts at unsustainable low prices.
Given that the summer is fast approaching, it would seem unlikely that the contract will move until the Swissport contract runs out which I believe is in 2015. Correct me if I'm wrong.
