They need the A400M badly, should have had them already. Some old Herc's and Transal's is all they have. Modern equipment does't fit in those aircraft. That said, the French were in the Market for C-17s a few yrs ago. Maybe they'll order a few together with the Germans/ Benelux afterall.. You don't need them often but not having them available proves unpracticle too.

The French are no member of SAC and the operational lines with the Brits were apparently shorter. They didn't have to ask 10 governments..
