From the BBC: Snake clings to Qantas plane's wing during flight (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-20975601).

''There was no panic. At no time did anyone stop to consider that there might be others on board.''

Did the snake survive?

The flaps did!

Wasn't interested in the flaps, just the snake, however sadly I have found my own answer that it did not.
Snake on a plane fails to survive (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-20975601)

Snakes on a plane, Australian style. Wonder what the recommended procedure is for removing it.

A recent flight from Cairns in North Queensland to Port Moresby in PNG had a python caught in the innards of the wing. Excuse my ignorance of aeronautical engineering. My total knowledge of aviation extends to knowing that the safest seat is that closest to an exit or in the back 3 rows. Should this not have been noticed in pre-flight checks? I do see important looking folk dressed like naval officers walking around planes on which I am a passenger looking at the innards of bits. Are they the flight crew?

Who looks inside the wings or flaps for snakes on their pre-flight checks?

Plenty of places on or within an airframe for livestock to hide undetected.
