F-16s go dark

You would have to assume the radar reflection is significantly reduced as they will stand out like a sore thumb visually! Or perhaps they just fight at night?

I hope in future others colours are found to work other than dull grey!

On a similar theme I remember a trial on Harrier GR5s being mentioned – head on, the intakes are almost always shaded and look like a large dark blobs. If my failing memory serves me right there was a trail to add lights inside the intakes to make them as bright as the background and therefore help them blend in – anyone remember this?

You may wish to ask the Bristol UK Harbormaster what color the Plimsol Bridge is painted, it so closely matches the low-level sky that ducks fly into it, only recognising their mistake when inches from the hard metal. The ducks fly VFR.

The RAF Phantoms didn't need the "Lamps" due to the Cloaking Device "Blue Ghost". Unfortunately we weren't allowed to use it in training.

BAE did a trial with Tornado.

Round here the Typhoons are hard to see with their landing lights on an a bright sky behind. You can see the lights of course :) but these aren't part of the Blue Ghost program.

I presume it was a Boscombe jet? I also remember that it worked amazingly well.

I don't buy into the radar makes it redundant - anyone know why it has apparently never been installed operationally?

I might remember quite a few snippets! A bit of simulation at a well known contractor on the South Coast too.

Proved too expensive to consider an operational fit
