'fraid not, ah were nobbut a lad when this were filmed. I'm supposing that it was about 1963 which would make me 13. One of the comments states that he was at Leuchars when there were Hunters and Javelins there - so were we. 43 Hunters and 151 Javelins with St Andrews Chipmunks puttering about.

Liked the very first few seconds - "Life on a fighter station will be very different from that at a Radio School". Looked awfully closely but didn't recognise anyone, as I was at the No 1 Radio School at precisely that time. But then again us Air Radio types tended not to mix with the ground trades. ;)

Captured the clip, it will definitely be joining my collection of nostalgic videos. Thanks RedHillPhil.

It was dated before 1st April 1964, that date the Junior Tech's single stripe seen in the clip, would have become a 4 bladed prop.

I know 'cos that was the day I went back to Cpl after being a Cpl/Tech :(

I was also at Akrotiri at the time, in the Minor Electronics Centre.

BBC 4 has been screening a series of the "Look at Life" films from the same era.

Wednesday's film was about women and thus the WRAF ( as was) got a mention.

Thankfully, life has progressed considerably, however, there is a shot showing what was clearly considered, at the time, to be a core military compentency for an officer......and, erm, note the commentary about the "only honourable ways out"...along with plenty of other patronising observations...starts with civilian CC taking the bus to work, in uniform no less !.....just follow the link below.

Same here Ian16th though I was on 32 Sqdn. Did we keep the 10/6 a week pay differential payed to Cpl/Techs?

Being aircrew and not paying too much attention to the 1964 Trade Structure I sighted this brand new J/tech with his 4 bladed prop and commented.

"They have smart uniforms in the ATC nowadays."

My flight commander overheard and I had ample time to research it as duty pilot.

Vought F4U Corsair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vought_F4U_Corsair) crashes on the deck of a carrier when the arresting gear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arresting_gear) failed. Most likely sometime during WW2 in the Pacific Theatre.

No!

We all ended on the same rate of pay.

Those of us who had been Cpl/Tech got a smaller pay rise than the Cpl's.

In my remaining few grey cells, I thought the pay differential was 2/6 a day, or 17/6 a week.
