Interesting one from South Africa:

I suppose the fatal flaw in the argument is that she was in fact, 'qualified as a pilot', albeit in 400 vs 180hrs. Someone 'passed' her. Blame them.

Colleagues said she was a top navigator and apparently believed this made up for her dubious piloting skills.

At least she knew where she crashed, then.

Quotas instead of quality.

There are a lot of high-quality female pilots in the world... she was not one of them.

Looks like it was one of these. I can think of a few male pilots that could not land this one.

Something isn't right here. I assume it was a military training course. If the course was planned for 180 hours, no way was anyone going to be allowed 400. Maybe a 10% extension, but over double the hours? Must have lost something in the translation.

Maybe a case of positive discrimination - lots of risks common in that - not just in SA

10% is the book answer. I could name you dozens that have been given way in excess of that.
Admittedly I can't name anyone that has had 122% extra hours.

The difference being Bob ( and I am standing by to be flamed here) is that the "dozens" given in excess of the book figure were not part of a brave new rainbow nation where the prominent colour is black and also not female. Nothing wrong with either but when a government tries to push people through a system despite the system knowing better then that is wrong.

Aircraft was 35 Sqn and all personnel on board were visiting former president Nelson Mandela at his home in Qunu outside Mthatha

Actually TBM-Legend it's not a Basler convertion. I believe the ones in SAAF were done by Braddick Specialised Air Services.

All in all any Turbo DC3 will require your full attention during take off and landing.
Definitely a bad place to put someone with no basic hand & feet coordination as it seems to be in that case.

I happen to share an office with a guy who worked there for 3 years and know all about the issues with positive discrimination.
My point was just to point out that 10% is an arbitrary (and usually very unrealistic) figure. 122% is completely friggin' bonkers but sadly believeable in this circumstance. It didn't seem to help much though!
