I would like to ask two questions regarding Airbus 320 series
1- Whats that funny sound below my seat when they start up their engines
and
2- Why the ones with IAE engines sound like turboprops during take off and climb, its a bit annoying especially when your seat is near the engines . Personally i find the CFM engines much quieter.
Thanks in advance

1) Probably the hydraulic power transfer unit (PTU) going though the self test. This unit allows the green to pressurise the yellow system or vice versa.

2) No idea. Most large fan engines give a buzzsaw noise, which you can notice when sat in front of the engine at high power settings. It is due to the front fan tips going supersonic at high RPM. If you sit behind the engine with both CFM or IAE they just give the usual jet 'roar'. I personally find the IAEs more quiet, to me the CFM is more agricultural.
