Found in our sqn photo album - but not from our sqn.

It was too big to post as a one-er, so I may as well ask: has anyone seen the 'surprise' on the other part of the picture before I post it? I've got a feeling it may have been round the bazaars in the 60's, and it doesn't look photoshopped.

No. Wait and see if anyone can crack it. We love good games.

Was this taken in the early 60's when 20 were part of the FEAF and displayed as a 5 ship?

See this old thread (http://www.pprune.org/archive/index.php/t-371774.html)

You will see XK142 gets mentioned a few times.

Guessing that No4 is very close astern No3 before cropping the pic?

Kitbag,

Your theory suddenly makes mine look a bit stupid. I thought it was one of those dragon things from Avatar about to eat number three. D'oh! What was I thinking?

WTF ?

1. It looks like a farmyard duck, not a wild duck.
2. It has a band on it !

Great photo either way, thanks for posting.

Would make an interesting entry to Wildlife Photographer of the Year! :D

I really enjoyed my time on 20(R), quite a while after they stopped flying Hunters though.

I suspect that might just be a sixties photo shop job.

When I was on 20 we had two ducks "Biggles and Algy" or "Bert and Sid" or "Sierra and Tango" depending on who tells the story. they used to get taken on detachments, smuggled aboard various aircraft to places like Butterworth, and Chiang mai, one died of suspected alcohol poisoning and the other one features on the Sqdn 50th (exiting stage right) birthday photo which I have but for some reason cannot upload.

You mean a 'Great Leonopteryx':

Hitting one of those in a Hunter would make your eyes water somewhat! Even more than Blunty and his close encounter of the goose kind whilst flying a Hawk at Chiv....

He went in to fly the VC10 and I'm pretty certain he posts on here too.

He does indeed!

Mad as a box of frogs, he keeps promising to finish the book he's been writing for years now. He kept us entertained for hours at Chivenor with his 'war stories' - one of which involved a Canberra which had an engine fire or something. His SOR was hilarious - under 'Purpose of Flight', instead of 'Training' or something equally obscure, he'd entered 'Getting 3 hours for the boss's wall'. Clearly the tedium of an hours-chasing borex was something about which he wasn't terribly keen.

Nice chap; however, I heard a disturbing rumour that he recently suffered from ill health. I hope that the rumour was false....

The Yeovilton occurence was in Dec 2006, long after Blunty's encounter with a mallard.

The aircraft, XX172, was eventually moved to Shawbury and written off as it was surplus to requirements, due to the shrinking state of military training. I see from my logbook that I actually flew it 26 years earlier at RAF Valley during a pre-Chiv refresher course.
