Radar Recording Stops When Computer Is Busy

Apparentley the computer stops sending info to the recording suite when it gets busy. This may occur when bandboxing, or when there are a large number of returns being processed. Worryingly, SRG are aware of this. Any thoughts?:confused:

??? Not sure where you got your info but I assume you're talking about DRP (Display, Record and Playback)?
DRP is the biggest hog of bandwidth on the operational LAN but it never stops recording (huge tapes exactly like VHS tapes but 5 times bigger!). Part of the reason NERC was delayed, 'cause the enjineers underestimated how much banwidth DRP would take and the system got so congested that the processors were shutting themselves down (better a shut down processor was the thinking than one which (because of congestion) appeared not to 'answer' the main host).
AFAIK DRP has still not replaced the legal requirement to make analogue recordings of radio and radar.
When it works DRP is pretty amazing (and spooky) as it plays back EVERYTHING on the workstation. Windows opening and moving, the radar, the radio, the landlines, button presses on the landline plasma panel, like the invisible man operating it all!

If I've understood Take3's post correctly it doesn't matter if a workstation is sending data or not. While this new function is desirable, radar and R/T is still being recorded as it always was, so while this engineer knows his stuff there is no problem.

Take3 is quite correct. The mandatory recordings (Radar and Voice) are done seperately and have no connection with the workstations.

As for PEAWEE's original point the answer is yes and no. The stoppage is only for a second or so and recording is restarted automatically.
