BBC reporting (The oldest surviving pilot from the Battle of Britain, who was shot down in his Spitfire and wounded in 1940, has died aged 99.) that "The oldest surviving pilot from the Battle of Britain, who was shot down in his Spitfire and wounded in 1940, has died aged 99."

RIP indeed.

Makes one feel old too - there were quite a few still serving when one first joined .... :(

But that was less than 30 years after the Battle ....... :(:(

Geoffrey Wellum is a strip of a lad at a mere 91. Willaim Walker was the oldest surving BoB pilot.

I believe Geoffry Wellum is 90. he was '18 years and 9 months' when he joined 92 squadron.

Last time I saw Geoffrey Wellum earlier this year he told me he was 91. Doing rather better than a few 65 year olds I know!

A serious question about William Walker. When I saw some film of Mr Walker on the news he was wearing the France & Germany Star, not the Aircrew Europe Star. Any groups of medals I have seen to holders of the 'Battle of Britain' clasp include the Aircrew Europe Star.

I reckon to know a bit about medals, but this one is confusing me. Anyone enlighten me?
