View Full Version : Bad Luck with JET2...

Its seems almost that EXS really must need to go to the "Sorcerers" in order to relieve some bad curses...within a few hours in time, two Jet2 aircraft landed at LPFR with some nasty troubles.
First a 733, CELX needed to burn some fuel and returned again to land:

After that a 752 from Canary islands to UK. LSAM, declared Mayday and landed with some hidraulic issues, causing a RYR to divert to Spain, remaining on the RWY without steering and waiting for a Pushback to the stand...Both aircraft remain @ Faro with Engineers:

Jet2 almost as Tech2, not a good day for sure unfortunately, but all with a nice end.
ATT: This post here doesnt have any purpose at all to blame or darken the name of this airline, wich is too much beloved by all ground staff at FAO.

It seemed the 757 was a little more than a minor tech issue.
The roads at the departure end of 28 were closed by the police for an extended period and a mayday was apparently issued. It must have been a reasonably serious hydraulic issue to cause a divert like that,

It was a big deal indeed!
All the Firebrigades in the Algarve and Faro district were put to stand-by/prevention mode, as well all the polices departments on the southern region of Portugal. The 2 official roads that connect the airport with the City and Faro beach were closed and strictly under surveillance in order to allow the emergency vehicles to reach the airport ASAP since the PIC declared Mayday.
It was a first Mayday, then a Pan Pan, wich took the option to divert to Lisbon, and then again a Mayday to FAO.
Two helis from the Portuguese Air Force and Civil Protection were also deployed to the scenario just in case. This was the biggest issue here at Faro for this last decade for sure. The city and road traffic almost came to an entire halt.
Good job done by the crew and all the authorities!:ok:

Incident: jet2 B752 near Faro on Oct 13th 2012, hydraulic failure (http://avherald.com/h?article=4576a3b8&opt=0)
A mayday was apparently declared and the full emergency plan was put into effect in Faro airport, the perimeter road was closed to traffic and a tow truck was used to move the aircraft from the runway.
Admittedly I am 737 type rated and don't know about the Hydraulic systems on the 757 but there is no hydraulic failure that requires one to land at the nearest suitable airport apart from manual reversion on the 737. Was this the case here? The fact that they needed to be towed from the runway makes me very suspicious that it was a little more than a simple *single* hydraulic failure.
There was a large number of Hi Viz wearing, clipboard holders walking around it and inspecting it the day after I can only assume incident investigators.
Anyone know the full story?

how dramatic!
No emergency, precautionary landing due hydraulics failure, replacement aircraft there within a few hours. Nothing to write home about really.

Walter, i assume that i am no Technician nor Engineer, so when im talking about it as "a big deal" its not about the mechanic parts, cause i have the humbleness/modesty to admit that its not my field, however regarding airport authorities, emergency staff, police, firebrigades, portuguese civil protection authority, portuguese air force and navy/coast guard, yes, it was indeed a big deal. Tanx.

No doomed airliner, cartwheeling across an estate crammed with orphans & puppies, spewing flaming jet fuel across schools, supermarkets & hospitals wreaking death, destruction, mayhem & carnage.
Boeing 737-300, G-CELX flew back from Faro to Leeds yesterday and has positioned back to its Newcastle base this evening.
Boeing 757-200, G-LSAM was flown back from Faro to Leeds this evening and has gone straight into the Multiflight Hangar.
Boeing 757-200, G-LSAL was pulled out of the Multiflight hangar over the weekend after having its end of lease check along with its Jet2holidays titles removed. She now parked in the Pan awaiting delivery to the USA.

What I want to know is, why the 'ones that shan't be questioned' have such a problem with the 'knapsacks and bino brigades'...
