How on earth did this guy get his command @ BA @ 25...?

After his training school, the former Wirral grammar school pupil joined Aer Lingus as a first officer flying Boeing 737 jets from Dublin Airport.

He joined GB Airways - a BA franchise in November 2001 as a first officer on the Boeing fleet, transferring to the Airbus fleet on their retirement. He took his command course in June.

If he joined GB Airways in 2001 that means he's been flying for at least 11 years, so unless he got his CPL at age 14 it doesn't fit...

Way back in 1971 I flew with a Dan-Air Captain (on the Comet) who was only 25. And he knew his stuff too.

another sucker with zero life experience. straight from looking at playboy magazine as a teenager to his flying manuals. no back up if it all goes wrong (medical), propbably limited life experience in the way of travelling etc. Now has a large mortgage, private education to pay for, votes conservative, etc. stuck at easyjet for a long time. not brave enough to jump. will be flying to malaga for the rest of his career.

Sounds familiar? If so do something about it. Your a long time dead.

What a thoroughly nasty post! However, your name seems appropriate enough.

GB was a delightful company to work for and I imagine he would have earned his command in the usual rigorous manner. If I knew years ago what I know now I would have embarked on a career in aviation much sooner than I did.

Good luck to him.

Pin Head - he's young and obviously smitten with flying.

He's pursued and achieved his dream, well done.

Your post reeks of bile and envy, what a sad little person you are.

Dear Pin Prick,

Perhaps you should consider some more time studying spelling and grammar before commenting on the excellent achievements of others. I would hate to be a passenger in the back of anything with you up front, especially if your reading ability of Jeppesen/LIDO charts matches the same "high" standard as your posting.

I achieved a BA mainline Airbus command at LHR after 6 years in the company. (2002) Oh how times change! Of course now, thanks to our purchase of Bmi we have 'expansion'! Which means an Airbus command should now only take...... Oh let me see...... about 15-20 years?!

Erm, why is a story from 2005 in the Rumours & News section. It is neither.

There once was a young captain at Aurigny. Ambition since childhood to fly for them. Captain by 25. There were then two captains, one named Curry and one called Rice. Not that they flew together on a BNT that I know of.

Life experience does help with on-line command. No question there.

But it is not essential to operate safely provided the young commander has a mature head on his/her shoulders. Some refinements only come with many years. (Not guaranteed)

Mercifully, Pin Head wasn't in charge 1939-45.

BMI had several 25yo captains on the 737 fleet in the mid-1990s so it is not a new phenomenon

Aircraft livery correct for BA but the uniform isn't. Yet another faux pas by the press. :\
Well done to the lad.
