Hello,

Many TRTO's seem to offer a choice of 4 or 6 takeoff/landings for the base training. Does it really matter how many we do? Would doing 4 really be less attractive to an employer?

Isn't it a requirement based on experience - possibly relating to whether this is your first rating (hence 6) or subsequent rating (hence 4)?

Employer doesn't care how many circuits you do to get the type on your licence (unless of course they're paying)

6 circuits for first type minimum. 4 circuits for subsequent 'similar' type again as an absolute minimum. Unless you're zft the 4 landings with a base trainer within 2 weeks of the zft (but the type is on your licence).

As others have said, whether it's 4 or 6 depends on your experience.

I would imagine that a prospective employer is more interested in the '500 hrs on type' or whatever their minimum stipulation is!

Does anyone know whether base training has to be completed at an ATO only or an Operator can complete the base training in order to complete the Type Rating> What happens when there is no ATO approved by EASA to complete base training on a specific aircraft? Learjet 35A is the aircraft in question.

Dear Petnik,

Normally, Base training for the purpose of acquiring the privileges of a type-rating need to be completed through an ATO.

Nevertheless, if what you say is correct - no ATO able to provide said training on the Learjet 35A - then you should contact the issuing Authority to enquire about the way to go. I would say there is little (if any) room to have the TR endorsement without the Base Training.
